Following the recent revocation of its mobile and 3G license by the regulator because of failure to meet license obligations, the government now wants the firm liquidated.
Fresh court ruling has put the Rwandatel in hands of an overseer who will deliver a report in two months to confirm whether the firm should continue operating or face sell-off to pay its debts.
However, this time, it is about taking mobile and internet services closer to the people.
An example where privatisation has failed and public hands succeed, is the former Electrogaz now electricity and water authority. The firm is now performing perfectly.
