KAMPALA, UGANDA- Qatar national carrier, Qatar Airways is on track to provide the fastest flights from Entebbe airport to the Gulf countries with no stopovers, as its expand its operations in Africa.
The airline is expected to launch its maiden flight to Entebbe on November 2.
Travelers to the gulf countries will need just five hours daily from Entebbe to Doha compared to other airlines that take about seven hours due to stopovers.
The Entebbe route will be the airline's 13th route of 2011, which will mark its aggressive route map expansion programme that will see the carrier tallying up its count to 110 destinations by the end of the year.
"Qatar Airways' daily flights will provide a gateway to major business and leisure destinations that will offer Ugandan travellers with more choice and convenience as they develop and expand their businesses in the Middle East and beyond, including China," says Qatar Airways Chief Executive Officer Mr. Akbar Al Baker.
He says just four weeks following the Uganda launch; the carrier will open its fifth gateway in China, to the western city of Chongqing.
Uganda's trade relations with China and the Middle East have been growing impressively in the recent past, of which the new flight routes complement well the increase in business travel.
The new Chongqing gateway will be a non-stop service, operating three-times-a-week from the airline's hub in Doha, taking the carrier's capacity to China up to 28 flights a week.
