KAMPALA, UGANDA - Telecommunication companies and banks have been pointed out as some of the worst performing organizations as regards to retaining workers for longer periods briefly termed as talent management.
It is noted that most of the workers in these organizations keep on rotating/recycling from one organization to another within the same industry.
According to Mr. Abdul Kibuuka, the president of the Human Resource Management Association of Uganda, the problem is minimizing as they have tried to educate both workers and employees about the benefits of staying longer in organizations and enticing remunerations.
"The problem has been that most of Ugandan employees are target workers. They always want to work in an organization for a few years and move on. This was hugely in the banking and telecommunications sector but we're trying to show people benefits," said Kibuuka during a press conference in Kampala that was organized by the Federation of Uganda Employers to create awareness of the need for talent management in organizations.
It also aimed at creating awareness about the Employer of the Year Awards (EYA) that are due later in the year.
Ms Rosemary Ssenabulya the executive director of the Federation of Uganda Employers called upon all organization to participate in the Employer of the Year Awards and survey.
"This survey encourages self regulations, they enhance human resource practices and it's a way of recognizing employers with good human resource practices," said Ssenabulya.
To participate in the survey, an application form is filled by any interested organization on payment of between Ush200,000 ($80) and Ush2m ($800) depending on the size of the organization.
 The survey encompasses start up organizations like SMEs to large organizations.
Ssenabulya explained a questionnaire is sent to the organization and as a result their practices are assessed by a panel of independent judges.
The EYA have so far attracted 35 organizations but Ssenabulya believes that over 100 organizations can take part in the survey.
