ARUSHA, TANZANIA: Ngorongoro Serena Safari lodge in Arusha, Tanzania has won this year's Annual World Travel Award.
The announcement was made on September 16, 2011 at the 18th annual travel awards ceremony that was held in Sharm El- Sheikh, Egypt.
"Ngorongoro Serena Safari Lodge is this year's winner of the prestigious World Travel Award for the year 2011 as Tanzania's leading Safari lodge," according to a statement issued by the World Travel Awards organizers.
The world travel award serves to acknowledge, reward and celebrate excellence across all sectors of the global travel, tourism and hospitality industry with 180,000 industry professionals from around the world who all participate in the voting process.
"We shall continue working even harder towards providing quality service to our clients, because it is because of them that we are today a world class Safari Lodge," says Dismas Simba, the Lodge Manager.
Located within the Ngorongoro Conservation Area (NCA) in the Tanzania's northern region of Arusha, Ngorongoro Serena Safari Lodge has been in business since 1996, under the management of Serena Hotels.
The area covers 8292 square kilometers running from the Serengeti national Park to the north up to Karatu Township to the south.
NCA receives large numbers of visitors every year and naturally, the Ngorongoro Serena Safari Lodge hosts the majority of these visitors.
"Also to note is the Maasai community that is settled around the lodge. Historically, it's believed that the Maasai moved into the Serengeti and Ngorongoro areas in the 17th Century after traveling hundreds of miles from the northern tip of Africa," he added.
Meanwhile the Kenyan award went to Amboseli Serena Safari Lodge which has also  preciously worn the same in the year 2004.
