UGACOF named Uganda's best exporter

UGACOF, an agro-processing and value-addition business located in Bweyogere, Wakiso district was announced the winner of the 24^th President Exporters’ Award for 2018.

UGACOF, whose main business is coffee processing like hulling, cleaning, grading and sorting coffee beans harvested before export was declared the winner at the Awards ceremony.

Without mentioning how many metric tons of coffee the plant exported last year, the organizers Uganda Export Promotions Board (UEPB) declared UGACOF the winner in a fairly attended event at Imperial Royale Hotel in Kampala.

Nimrod Wanyala the UEPB Chairman said there is a need for an Export Fund to target the exports niche that will support Sustainable Economic Development.

Uganda’s Vice President Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi said the country has abundant natural resources and what is needed is to attract investments to boost cottage industries, hard work and innovation.

Kyagulanyi Coffee Limited, which was founded in 1992 when the coffee industry was liberalised and is the oldest licensed coffee exporter in Uganda came second.

It is one of the leading green coffee exporters in Uganda with export volumes of about 400,000 bags a year.

They export high-quality arabica and robusta coffees from all major coffee growing areas in Uganda and are also working with over 12,000 farmers across the country to improve the yields and quality of their coffee through our sustainability initiatives.
