KAMPALA, Uganda—Tropical Bank Uganda Ltd has launched its mobile banking platform, Tropical Mobile that allows customers to transact with the bank and pay bills using their mobile phones.
“With Tropical Mobile, we bring the entire branch to your palm to allow you conduct realtime transactions at your own comfort using your mobile phones. Customers can access the service by downloading the Tropical Mobile App or by dialing *214# using any mobile device,” said Krekshi Sameh Mahmud, the Managing Director, Tropical Bank Uganda.
Mahmud said that their new mobile banking product will help bring the bank closer to her customers thereby making service provision to their clients simpler, easy and quick, because customers can make inquiries, make transfers and pay for utility bills without necessarily going to the physical bank.
He said trends in the banking sector are changing and this is one of the ways the bank is getting intouch with the reality on the ground.
“We believe a concerted effort betweeen financial instutions and the tech sector is key for the economic development of Uganda,” Mahmud said. He said the introduction of the new mobile bankin product/technology does not have any effect in terms of cuting jobs but enables them to realign the qualifications of different people to the right positions.
Mahmud said the technology will help improve on the efficiency of the bank because it allows for transperency which will, in the long run, help the bank cut on its operation costs.
The Senior Manager E-banking at Tropical Bank Uganda, Telex Kaggwa said they developed a customised service to ehance financial transactions through mobile phone.
