KAMPALA, UGANDA- The Electoral Commission has warned political parties, political leaders, aspiring candidates and residents  not to conduct elections of local council leaders as it came to their knowledge that some villages are conducting elections illegally.
The commission chairperson Mr Badru Kiggundu told reporters in Kampala that people who assume an elective office without going through an election organized and conducted by the electoral commission do so illegally, and any business he or she conducts in that capacity is null and void.
“We have heard that people have started electing village councils without our guidelines. We warn these people not to conduct such activities until we issue the electoral programme and relevant guidelines for the same,” said Kiggundu.
According to Kiggundu, some villages and Kampala suburbs of Makindye, without the guidelines of the commission have elected their own local council ones, and installed chairpersons together with committee members. He appealed to Ugandans to wait for the appropriate time.
