UPDAF helicopter on training mission crashes

A Helicopter, a Jet ranger AF302 belonging to the Uganda Peoples’ Defense Air Force (UPDAF) has crashed in the district of Gomba in Central Uganda killing all the two people on board.

According to the Uganda Peoples Defense Forces Spokesperson Brig Richard Karemire, the helicopter had two crew members and sadly, no one survived.

“We regret to inform that a UPDAF Jet Ranger on a training mission has crashed. It had two crew members. Sadly, no one has survived. An investigation into the cause has started. Condolences to their families and the entire UPDF fraternity,” said Karemire in a Tweet.

The actual cause of the crash has not yet been established but eyewitnesses in Gomba say that the Helicopter was flying over a steep hill before they heard a low noise that was followed by a sudden silence.

The incident eyewitnesses say it happened at around midday.

The incident has followed that which happened in California on Sunday when NBA Legend Kobe Bryant and other eight people on board died in a plane crash.

Initial investigations in the California crash indicate that bad weather conditions, followed by poor visibility could have led to its crash.
