Uganda Government has set a target to attract 4 million tourists by 2020 according to the State Tourism Minister Godfrey Kiwanda Ssuubi.
The Minister said this will be achieved through aggressive marketing for domestic, regional, continental and international tourism campaigns.
“We segmented the tourism campaigns in four categories. The Tulambule campaign targeting domestic tourists, Twende Uganda for fellow east Africans, Destination Uganda for the rest of African market and the Pearl of Africa Tourism Campaign that targets the rest of the world.
“With aggressive marketing from all of us Ugandans, we shall be able to hit that target,” stressed Kiwanda while launching the Tulambule Tourism Christmas Festival Campaign at Ibamba in Kampala.
Kiwanda called upon Ugandans to enjoy their country because the government has prioritized tourism as a primary growth sector.
John Ssempebwa the deputy Chief Executive Officer of Uganda Tourism Board said by the start of October this year, 1.7 million tourists have visited Uganda, indicating growth in the sector.
He encouraged Ugandans to book early for smooth preparations.
Uganda Tourism Board also unveiled Claire Mugabi and Sandra Natukunda as their new Marketing Manager and Public Relations Officer respectively.
