Total E&P Uganda has donated medical supplies to Buliisa District in a bid to support its Ebola response preparedness.
The donation follows an outbreak of the virus in neighbouring Democratic Republic of Congo with which the District encounters a number of cross border interactions.
“Buliisa district is of strategic importance to Total as the host community of the company’s oil and gas development activities.
“Therefore as part of the Company’s Health and Safety community initiatives, we are making a donation comprising an assortment of medical supplies in order to reinforce the efforts of the District Local Government to combat the potential outbreak of this epidemic in the district”, said Total E&P Uganda Public Relations Coordinator, Christopher Ocowun.
The donation which was received by the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Buliisa, Amos Asiimwe, LC5 chairman; Simon Kinene Agaba and the Chief Administrative Officer; Chrizestom Kayise among other leaders comprised medical items such as; Thermometers, Jik / Chlorine, Gumboots, Aprons, Protective goggles, Tents, Hospital Beds, Mattresses, 1000 litre water tank, Sprayer pumps and Stretchers.
“At Total, our social commitments are driven towards specific actions in partnership with local communities. We, partner, to undertake development projects, awareness and prevention campaigns among others as part of our contribution to these communities. It is expected that these partnerships will among other things result in providing better health conditions to our host communities.”
“The fight against the spread of the Ebola virus is a collective effort and as a socially responsible company we hope that our support to Buliisa will encourage more partners to come on board and aid the Government of Uganda as well as Buliisa District Local Government’s efforts to impede the spread of the deadly virus,” Ocowun added.
