Taxpayer appreciation is key in answering the question of the impact of the taxpayers’ money through service delivery.
This is why the government, through the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) and different government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) saw the need for the Taxpayer Appreciation month.
The event provides visibility of government achievements in the financial year which ultimately answers the question of accountability for the tax revenue.
In order to showcase and educate the public about the mandate of the different MDAs as well as the specific milestones achieved over the years, exhibitions will take place for 5 days from 24th to 28th September 2018 at Kololo Independence grounds.
This will also provide an opportunity to promote the business for some private sector entities.
MDAs will exhibit the services, projects/initiatives that they handle under their respective mandate. At the exhibition, MDAs will also deliver quick services to the public.
The private sector especially compliant taxpayers will also be invited to exhibit their products at no cost. This will give them more visibility to grow their business.
Other objectives of the event are to increase awareness and visibility of government achievements, improve government’s transparency and accountability to the citizens.
The event is also aimed at promoting other government programmes like the Youth Livelihood Fund, BUBU and other local content initiatives for increased impact, strengthen inter-parastatal collaboration as well as recognise and reward new and compliant taxpayers.
As a way of giving back, government MDAs and other stakeholders will provide the following free services during the CRS week at Kololo; a medical camp by Ministry of
Health, legal services, financial and tax advisory, blood donation by government officers, and the public, registration of births and deaths, verification of land titles, sickle cell and cancer testing services, yellow fever vaccination, HIV testing and counselling, career guidance and counselling and Hepatitis B vaccination, among others.
