Self Help Africa (SHA) is an International Non-Governmental
Organization implementing rural development,
sustainable food and livelihoods security programmes
in nine countries in Sub-Saharan Africa. SHA’s vision is
an economically thriving and resilient rural Africa with a
mission to support sustainable livelihoods for Uganda’s
smallholder farmers. SHA has been working in Uganda for
close to 20 years. Self Help Africa Uganda urgently seeks
to recruit suitable candidates to fi ll the following positions.
ENTERPRISE DEVELOPMENT ADVISOR (Based in Soroti
or Kampala) Re- advertised
Under the overall supervision of the Head of Programmes,
the Enterprise Development Advisor (EDA) is responsible for
facilitating the establishment, nurturing and development of
sustainable and profitable agri-enterprise that are aligned to
Self Help Africa enterprise development programmes. The
EDA will apply market system approaches to improve the
competitiveness of agricultural producers to respond to new
and expanding market opportunities. The EDA will enhance
SHA Uganda’s ability to deliver high impact market and
enterprise development programming including: assisting
farmers’ organisations, such as farmer groups and cooperatives
in on-farm and off-farm business development; value chain
development; developing innovative financial inclusion models
and approaches; brokerage and linking different stakeholders;
and, networking with other organisations and companies
promoting inclusive businesses. EDA is an integral member of
the Program Management Unit and will contribute to strategic
and technical direction for the program. The EDA will also
support the country programme in developing best practices
in agri-enterprise by engaging with SHA HQ, SHA Regional
Agri-Enterprise Advisor, and other SHA Enterprise Advisors
across programme countries, managing the assigned project
portfolio and supporting the proposal development. Key areas
of responsibilities include:
- Support the development of dynamic and inclusive SMEs
that are aligned to Uganda Country enterprise development
programmes;
- Support institutional and enterprise development for
smallholder farmers, including off-farm and on-farm
businesses;
- Facilitate access to financial services for smallholder farmers;
- Monitoring, Evaluation Accountability and Learning (MEAL);
- Participate in Country office strategy processes;
- Network and Relationship building
NUTRITION AND GENDER ADVISOR (Based in Kampala)
Under the overall supervision of the Head of Programmes, the
Nutrition and Gender Advisor (EDA) will provide support to the
Country Office ensuring its Programmes have a strong nutrition
focus and a strong gender element to improve cohesion within
households. The Gender and Nutrition Advisor will support
the development of concept notes to build a strong nutrition
and gender element in proposal development, programme
delivery and supporting the evaluation of the Country Office
Programmes. This role is key in building technical excellence,
improving programme quality and taking the lead in innovative
development. Key areas of responsibilities include:
- Provide technical support to the Head of Programmes
in planning and designing effective nutrition and gender
implementation strategies for the Country Programmes;
- Ensure SHA engagement with relevant stakeholders to
strengthen the organisation’s visibility;
- Facilitate learning, promote peer-learning between staff and
partners and exploring opportunities for innovation for the
Country Programmes;
BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT AND MARKETING OFFICER
(Based in Hoima)
The position is based within the project for the “Design &
(Partial) Implementation of the Pilot Agriculture Development
Programme (ADP) in the Albertine Region of Uganda”. The
project advances the vision of the Ugandan Government to
establish the Albertine region as an exemplar of value-added
commercial agriculture production that will contribute to a
prosperous Albertine Region and Uganda at large.
The Business Development and Marketing Officer will work
with a team of specialist consultants who will be responsible
for the design and partial implementation of the project. The
officer will need to be a person with a business development
background and familiar with the Albertine Region. He/she will
be responsible for identifying and supporting SMEs that are
in-line with value chains that will be supported during the first
phase of the project. Reporting directly to the Team Leader, the
the Business Development and Marketing Officer responsibility
shall include:
– Reviewing and up-dating value chains analyses information
for chosen commodities or value chains.
– Supporting smallholder farmers and other SMEs to develop
and implement enterprises that are supported by the project
– Facilitate access to financial services for smallholder
farmers
– Facilitate linkages between the project actors and other
private and public services providers in the area
