Mukwano Group of Companies has reported that since the Uganda – Rwanda border impasse begun, the company is stuck with over 10 trucks full of merchandise all destined for Rwanda.
Sammy Makaka the Mukwano Group of Companies’ Export Sales Coordinator said since the impasse, Rwanda has doubled their taxes at their open border posts of Mirama Hills and Kyanika making it difficult for them to export their merchandise to Rwanda.
“Hon. Minister, I want to know where you have reached with the Rwanda Border row, as we speak right now, we have 10 trucks all bound for Rwanda stuck at our offices. We can’t export because of the border issue?,” Makaka asked Uganda’s Trade Minister Amelia Kyambadde.
In response, Kyambadde urged the Exporters to explore new markets as the border row is being sorted.
“I’m not privy to the current ongoing discussions but what I advise you is to take your goods especially the perishables to other markets such as Congo DRC, South Sudan and even local markets in Uganda,” said Kyambadde.
