Kigali City in forefront to win Africa’s Most Innovative Business Tourism Destination Award

Kigali City has been nominated among the finalists of the inaugural Africa Tourism Leadership Awards that will be held in Accra, Ghana later this month.

Winners will be announced at the Awards Ceremony to be held on August 31, 2018 in Accra, Ghana, according to the Co-chairpersons of the awards committee, Prof. Marina Novelli and Ms. Judy Kepner-Gona, following criteria and process verification by Grant Thornton.

“The Awards seek to recognize and celebrate countries, governments, organizations and individuals for their innovation and outstanding accomplishments in tourism development across Africa,” said Professor Marina Novelli, Co-chairperson of the Awards Committee.

Other East African Community organizations and individuals competing for accolades are: Rwanda Development Board, Carmen Nibigira – Burundi, Rosette Chantal Rugamba – Rwanda and  Jacinta Nzioka – Kenya for the Women in leadership Award. Others are Kigali City – Rwanda for Most Innovative Business Tourism Destination Award, Beyond Ngorongoro Crater Lodge –Tanzania (Outstanding Accommodation Facility/Group Award), Ethiopian Airways – Ethiopia and Late Professor Wangari Muta Maathai – Kenya for the Destination Africa – Lifetime Award.

“We believe the efforts of these finalists will continue to empower our local communities,” underscores Ms. Judy Kepner-Gona, her colleague Co-chairperson.

The 3 short-listed finalists for each of the 9 categories are presented below in no particular order:
