French businesspeople plan visit to Uganda to explore investment opportunities

A group of French Businesspeople under their umbrella organization MEDEF (The largest French business leaders association ) is organizing a multi-sector mission of French business leaders to Uganda from 25 to 26 November 2019.

The main objective of this kind of mission is generally to enable French business leaders to prospect a market that offers significant business opportunities and also identify potential local partners for their future activities.

According to H.E Jules Armand ANIAMBOSSOU, France’s Ambassador to Uganda, the mission will schedule meetings with Ugandan Ministers of Trade and Industry, Finance, Energy and Minerals, Tourism, Agriculture and Foreign Affairs.

The mission will also have meetings with officials of public authorities (Ugandan Revenue Authority, Ugandan Investment Authority, National Planning Authority), do site visits and also engage in meetings with resident representatives of international financial institutions (UE, IMF, AFDB, WB).

The French businesspeople will also hold meetings with private sector organizations (PSFU, Uganda Chamber of Commerce), carry out networking meetings with Ugandan companies (on either cocktails, roundtables, lunch …).

“For the French business leaders who would be joining that mission, it would be a tremendous opportunity to know more about projects and sectors of activities pushed forward by the Ugandan government, in particular, understanding the government’s vision for the coming months.

“Discuss with Ugandan authorities, their projects, their ongoing activities, difficulties and have a conversation on the business environment in Uganda, identify knew Ugandan business partners and know more about international financial institutions, current and future financing in Uganda,” said ANIAMBOSSOU.

ANIAMBOSSOU said the mission could result in key achievements on the medium term, such as the development of a partnership with Ugandan firms, setting up of new firms or opening of branches, job creation and transfers of competences, strengthening of the economic bilateral cooperation and development of bilateral trade.

In 2017, the MEDEF mission gathered 36 French firms of different sectors, particularly ICT, energy & renewable energy, public works, infrastructure, transports, health, agri-business, petrochemical, international trade, etc.

MEDEF and MEDEF International, which represent 170,000 French companies and more than 10 million employees, are committed to engaging with their Ugandan counterparts both public and private, in order to support the development of sustainable and long-term partnerships between our two countries.
