Centenary Bank Named Best Digital Brand in Uganda

Centenary Bank has won the top Digital Impact Awards Africa (DIAA) accolades for its innovative digital products and approach to digital communication to its customers.

The bank won three awards including; Digital Brand of the Year, Best Digital Customer Experience by Bank and Best Mobile Banking.

DIAA is a platform that promotes Digital inclusion, financial inclusion and Cybersecurity under the theme ‘Maximizing the Digital Dividend.’

The awards, an initiative of HiPipo Limited and Cyberplc aim at recognizing and appreciating different organizations that are spearheading the use of digital mediums.

Innocent Kawooya, the CEO, HiPipo said that there are three key components for the success of a digital financial services ecosystem: a digital transactional platform, retail agent or distribution chain, and the use by customers and agents of a device – most commonly a mobile phone to transact via the platform.

“Centenary Bank has walked this journey delivering great mobile banking, innovative financial inclusion solutions coming with great digital customer experience and we congratulate them,” he said.

Allen Ayebare, the bank’s Chief Manager Corporate Affairs and Communication noted that the awards demonstrate the bank’s resolve to promote digital inclusion and financial inclusion, through innovative, affordable and convenient digital products and customer engagements.

“We wish to thank HiPipo, Cyberplc for organizing the awards and the public that voted us the best digital brand for the year 2018. We commit to continue the digital innovation and transformation journey as we deepen financial inclusion in Uganda to empower more people financially.”

Centenary Bank embarked on its digital revolution in 2003 when it acquired its first Automated Teller Machine (ATM).

Today, it has 176 ATMs, 64 point of sale machines and a mobile phone banking platform dubbed ‘CenteMobile.’ This year, the bank has introduced two new digital services; the CenteVisa debit card and the CenteMobile loans, to deepen financial inclusion.

On social media, the bank commands a following of over 365,418 people on Facebook, 14,700 followers on Twitter, 283 subscribers on YouTube and the numbers are still growing.

A study carried out by Hendricks and Singhal of the University of Western Ontario and Georgia Institute of Technology revealed that more than 600 quality corporate award winners had 37 per cent more sales growth and 44 per cent higher stocks price return than their peers.

The findings show that there is more that comes with winning accolades!

Centenary Bank has participated in the DIAA previously, receiving awards of excellence for its outstanding services in 2015 and 2016.
