KAMPALA, UGANDA- About 354 students have graduated in Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Accounting Technician Diplomas and Certified Tax Advisor courses conducted by the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU).
There were a total of 308 CPAs who graduated from the three sittings of June, August and November 2017. 33 graduated with Accounting Technician Diplomas while for the first time in Uganda, 13 completed the Certified Tax Advisor Course.
At a graduation Ceremony held at the Imperial Royale Hotel in Kampala, Protazio Begumisa, the President of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda urged employers to make use of the new graduates of professional accountancy and offer them employment.
He told the graduands that when one completes their examination scheme, he or she is expected to demonstrate professional knowledge, skills, values, ethics and attitudes as articulated by the accountancy profession.
“However, there is need to keep up to date in order to provide relevant professional services. Completion of these courses is the beginning of a lifelong learning process to professionalism,” said Begumisa.
Brig. George Igumba the Chief of Personnel and Administration at Uganda Peoples Defense Forces, who delivered the keynote speech, urged the graduands to desist from corruption and work professionally.
“Take heed that if you always wear a pleasant personality whether in calm or in sorrow, you will win,” advised Igumba.
CPA Derrick Nkajja, the Chief Executive Officer ICPAU said qualifying as a CPA or an ATC opens one to the world of opportunities but qualifying alone is not enough.
“During your studies, you were equipped with professional knowledge, skills, ethical values which you must cherish, maintain and renew throughout your careers. To succeed, you must develop a right attitude to life and your professional journey career.
“I urge you to use your accountancy qualification to support the organizations you serve for sustainability. Desist from using what is not yours for your personal benefit and to the disadvantage of your employers or clients,” advised Nkajja.
