Hardware City a new City in Kampala City

KAMPALA, UGANDA- Even a blind man cannot miss Hardware City building along Entebbe Road. It is the pioneer one-stop shopping center for hardware in East Africa. Tiles, electric wires and kitchen products are all in stock.

After close to two years since it was officially opened, the structure is abuzz with buyers and sellers swapping money for goods. Orders are made on line. Equipped with a standby generator business continues even when there a power outage.

Contrary to expectations, the land lord Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia assured the tenants that this time round they will pay rent paid in Uganda shillings and there has been no increment in rent since.

“But take heed fellow businessmen,” tipped Sudhir. “Be prepared to pay an extra coin for a tiptop service. There is a parking lot, with a capacity of 180 cars, which guarantees the safety of your wheels. There is electricity 24/7. Please accustom yourself with tenancy terms to avoid friction.”

The tenants were prayed for by a Hindu religious leader to make profits and weather the storms in their businesses. The Market street chairperson Kasita commended Sudhir and Crane management officials for the development.

“Indian gods are not selective,” tipped the religious leader. “Submit your shopping list and they will deliver. Our gods are lucky not to be overloaded by every need. We have several. Some big days like Diwali are worth your attention if you want to amass wealth like your land lord.”

The large building was constructed in 18 months covering over 27,000 sq. meters at a cost of $25M.

“To save time there are apartments on the top most floor,” said a Director Rajiv Ruparelia. “There will be no time wasted in traffic jams. All it will take you is a lift to get up or down.”

The plush building has eight levels with two at the ground level access as well as 66 apartments ranging in size from 1-3 bedrooms that come with a fitted kitchen, hot water supply and a beautiful view from the city center. These are in addition to 287 shops and offices.

The building is also fitted with access for disabled individuals as well as the latest safety standards. Hardware City has access from 3 main (Entebbe road, Sinai bin Amir Street and market street) roads that traders use for buying and transporting goods around Kampala.
