Uganda stirs up Qatar interests
KAMPALA, Uganda - A delegation of investors from Qatar was last week in Uganda searching out available opportunities.
It was led by the Royal Highness Sheikh Faisal Bin Saoud Al Thani, a member of the ruling family in the United Arab Emirates.
The delegation included government officials and business people.They paid a call to the Uganda Investment Authority (UIA) in a bid to discuss investment proposals outlined to the Qatari government by UIA through Uganda’s Embassy in Saudi Arabia in conjunction with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Among the delegation were members from the Business Development Department of the Kingdom of Qatar, the Ministry of Economy and Commerce, the Ministry of Energy and Industry / Qatar Petroleum as well as senior representatives from Hassad Food and Qatar Mining. Both are interested in agro-processing and value addition in mining, respectively.
Eng. Dr. Frank Sebbowa, the UIA Executive Director, said their agency was there to help the Qatari implement the projects of their choice.
Ms. Amina Herse, a prominent investor in Uganda attended the meeting.
