Two EAC television stations sign deal
KAMPALA, Uganda - NBS Television has signed a memorandum of understanding with Kenya’s Standard Group’s, KTN with intentions to improve the quality of its content and share programming.
NBS Chief Executive Officer, Kin Kariisa said, “We are very optimistic that the partnership will serve the region better and will lead to more exposure of both countries towards each other for development.”
Kariisa said local content between (6AM-11PM) as demanded by the regulator will not be affected.
“The merging will not fail us from following recent directive of having at least 70% local content aired during prime time. The Ugandan content will air as it has been,” he said.
Joe Munene the standard group broadcasting MD said that this open ended collaboration will help integrate the Kenyan and Ugandan industries and therefore enable them act as formidable forces of communication in East Africa regions
This comes after a warning by Uganda Communication Commission to switch off any broadcaster that declined to air 70% content, out of which 50% must feature drama, comedy and reality show programmes, while 10% should be reserved for local documentary programmes, 5% for sports and 5% for children’s programmes
Sources say KTN’s emergence into the Ugandan market will broaden NBS’s capacity to become more reliable and influential not only in Uganda but East Africa at large.
