Juliana Wins Award
Kampala, Uganda – as part of the women’s day celebrations at Garden City rooftop last weekend, Airtel Uganda recognized and awarded women who have excelled in the fields of entertainment, public sector, sports and health during the past year.
Flavia Lwanga Airtel Uganda’s Human Resource manager while handing over the awards to the winners remarked that the awards were organised to appreciate all the ladies who have worked hard to develop the country.
Leading the winners was Juliana Kanyomozi. The “Eddiba ”singer couldn’t leave the stage without belting out a tune to the over joyed fans she had in the audience. She trumped music icons Joanita Kawalya, Cindy and Judith Babirye.
“Thank you Airtel for this wonderful recognition. As a young girl singing was my dream, but my prayer was, ‘lord help me use my music and voice to become a source of inspiration to others,’” Juliana happily said after winning the award.
Last year she got a similar award from Warid telecom, an award she dedicated to her mother.
Coca cola Rated Next judge and radio presenter Siima won the media personality award. Ann Kansiime who must be choking on award accolades right now won the arts and culture award. Phionah Mutesi won the sports award.
Other winners included Jennifer Musisi and the Nabagereka Sylvia Nagginda who won the public service and women mentor awards respectively.
The Month of March is recognized as International Women’s Month. Events throughout this period honor and celebrate the achievements of women from all around the world, ranging from small random informal gatherings to large highly organised events.
“Woman of Substance” Awards Ceremony, honors and celebrates the achievements of women, and inspires them to celebrate their achievements in the diverse local activity which connect women from around the globe ranging from political rallies, business conferences, government activities, and networking events through to local women’s crafts markets, theatrical performances, fashion parades, tributes, and more.
At the Inspiring Women concert, the headlining act of the night was the Jamaican singer Nyanda.
Other local based singers who performed on the same stage with Nyanda were former Blue 3 singer Cindy Sanyu, Irene Ntale, Fille Clear, Brenda Nambi, Sheeba Kalungi, Keko , Lilian Mbabazi and many more.
