Simba Cement proud sponsor of Kili marathon
MOSHI, Tanzania - One of the cement giant producers in Tanzania, Tanga Cement Co. Ltd (TCCL) has pledged to maintain its sponsorship to most famous event, Kilimanjaro Premium Lager Marathon. The marathon takes place every last Sunday of June every year.
However, the cement firm which sponsors the event under its leading product Simba Cement didn’t disclose whether it will increase the current amount or will provide the same. The current two years sponsorship deal is worth $17,000.
TCCL’s Commercial Manager, Mr Hamish Fraser told East African Business Week after the end of this year’s competition at the ground of MUCCOBS in Moshi that his company will continue to sponsor the annual event next year immediately after the end of the current sponsorship deal.
Fraser noted that Simba Cement is proud to enter into a contract of $17,000 for the last two years warranty center providing refreshment and water sponging centre for athletes.
“In addition to the annual scholarship Simba Cement guarantees its employees to participate in the event, this year using nearly Tsh20million ($7,350) to bail out its 35 employees,” he said.
Referring to this year’s competition, slated for 29th June, TCCL’s Managing Director, Reinhardt Swart said Kilimanjaro Marathon is one of the highlights of the year.
“We always enjoy this wonderful environment in running such a spectacular setting under Mount Kilimanjaro and while we take this pride to be associated with this prestigious event in the Tanzania calendar,” Swart said.
Swart, who has also participated in the tournament, said he would like to see more participants from outside the country to participate in the athletes next year.
“It is my hope that Kilimanjaro Marathon might become big and gaining popularity even more than New York Marathon competition,” he said.
Simba Cement started to sponsor this rally in 2003 and the main sponsor is TBL through its beer Kilimanjaro Premium lager while involved over 6000 runner from outside and inside the country.
