Tigo takes digital change to remote Tanzania
MTWARA, TANZANIA - Pursuant to the company’s objective to bring digital transformation to the education sector , Tigo Tanzania last week donated 23 pieces of computers worth Tsh.33million ($15,000) with free internet service installation at a cost of Tsh.22million ($10,000) for two years to three secondary schools in Mtwara region (over 500km south of Dar es Salaam.
Tigo Coast Zone Director Goodluck Charles said the support to the three schools is part of the telecom’s digital lifestyle transformation strategy.
“The donation to Masasi Day, Tandahimba and Sino Secondary Schools is a true demonstration of Tigo’s investment in various socially impactful projects through our social investment strategy of empowering the community to embrace modern Information and Communication Technology (ICT) tools in every sphere of society – education sector included,” said Charles.
Tigo also donated 10 pieces of computers to Chuda Primary school in Tanga and 25 pieces of internet connected computers to Sekou Toure referral hospital in Mwanza last year.
The Mtwara Regional Commissioner Halima Dendego called upon the private sector to support government’s initiatives in improving the learning environments of schools.
“I applaud Tigo for their generous support towards these schools and I also appeal to individuals, business enterprises and other stakeholders to come forward and join on-going efforts to improve the education sector,” Dendego said.
