Uganda telecom (utl) has increased sponsorship for the Uganda Sports Press Association (Uspa) for the sports personality gala event to a tune of Shs90m ($45000). The sponsorship is for over two years.
"This serves to encourage us to work even harder. Our members will always safeguard the integrity of the association and ensure continuity," said Uspa president Douglas Mazune.
The gala sponsorship is a Shs11m($550) increment from last year's Shs79m ($3950).
Athlete Moses Kipsiro is in line for a hat-trick for the utl/Uspa annual award after his silver medal at last year's World Cross-country Championships earned him a nomination.
Others in contention include Jackson Asiku, the Australian-based IBF World Featherweight Champion, Uganda Cranes striker Brian Umony and Heathens RFC. UTL agreed in principle with uspa to sponsor sports journalists' awards that should start in November. Voting for the public is open on the Uspa website, www.uspamedia.com, or via sms (e.g type Asiku and send to 8198).
