You can prevent fire from happening, especially in your home. There is always something that you can do to make this possible.
Take note, fire accidents happen at home due to faulty electrical wiring and improper use of fire. So as you can see, its purely negligence that can cause all of this fire accidents to happen.
Hence, if you want to avoid hundreds of thousands of dollar losses and if you want to avoid putting your kids at risk, you might as well start implementing precautions to prevent fire from occurring.
Make sure the Smoke Alarms are Functioning
Make sure all areas of the house have smoke detectors or fire alarms. They should all be interconnected so that when one alarm goes off, every device alarms too. Do not just settle for pure electric or pure battery-operated alarms. As much as possible go for the ones that has a back up power.
Property Use of Electrical Devices
When not in use, turn them off. As much as possible, do not overload a circuit. Overloading could predispose to home fires. This goes the same for the extension cords. If you notice sparks coming out from the wiring, cease using the device. Have it fixed or replaced right away. This goes the same if you smell smoke coming out from the appliance.
Any appliance that emits heat should be kept away from the wall. If you have a fireplace, put screens on it and keep away highly combustible devices.
Practice Fire safety at home
If someone in your home smokes, may it be a guest or a household member, encourage them to smoke outside. However, cigarettes should be disposed properly. If not, provide ashtrays for them to put out the flames. Aside from this, keep away matches and lighters away from the reach of your kids. Always watch them and caution them not to play with fire. If you have flammable liquid stored in your home, make sure it is properly stored.
Cooking Safely
Never leave the kitchen when you are cooking. As much as possible, set to low to moderate flames if you are deep-frying. Should you have to answer the phone, set it to low. If your pan bursts into flames, cover the pan and do not use water.
If your grilling outdoors, make sure you cover the grill if you have to get something inside the house. Do not use the grill when there are bunches of branches sticking out near it.
Install Fire Safety Devices
You can prevent small to medium scale fires from progressing into large scale simply with the use of fire extinguishers. Hence, this is one device that you can install in your house. Buy a multi-rated fire extinguisher (ABC) so that you can safely put out a wide range of fire. |
