DAR, TANZANIA- Finally, the power rationing that had threatened to leave dozens of employees jobless due to low production in factories will end this week following governments order to have Independent Power Tanzania Limited (IPTL) switch on its generators. The generators have capacity to produce 100MW, which is 20MW above the 80MW shortage the country is experiencing. The generators had been grounded for a long time after it was said that the company was overcharging on the electricity it was providing to Tanzania Electricity Supplying Company (Tanesco). The minister for Energy and Minerals, William Ngereja, said the government will be paying $17.3 thousand per month for the power. Ngeleja said the fuel for ITPL was being dispatched at Dar es Salaam Port and any time the generators will be fully turned on and will generate the power for two months whereby then Tanesco will have solved the problem associated with hydro-electric plants and other turbines that had broken down.
