EDITOR--With a growing population, a middle class about to burst around the seams and an ever expanding export capacity around the region, agriculture remains the major source of monies whether commercial or domestic.

And East African governments had better see the value of it soon.

Recently, I read in the media that Lake Tanganyika is slowly but surely receding, pausing a danger not just domestically to those that depend on its waters, but also commercially for those that depend on fishing not to mention wildlife a well.

I know that tourism is a major source of income to our economies and so should the monies coming out of it drastically drop, our economies will suffer.

But with the threat of global warming looming, it's time we put our eggs in several other baskets for safety's sake. Agriculture is the only other savior that I see, my hope is that our governments will see this and boost the sector.
