Four Rwandan golfers will represent the country at the exciting regional golf championship for amateur golfers, the tusker malt golf carnival in May.
A team comprising Joseph Semwaga, Steven Katwiremu, Fraterne Rubangura and Emmanuel Sengamungu posted a team total of 110 stable ford points to win the Rwanda's edition of the Tusker Malt Golf Carnival at Kigali golf course last week (March 13).
The inaugural Tusker Malt Golf Carnival, first of its kind on Rwandan soil had attracted over 70 golfers.
Katwiremu was the top scorer in the group with 39 points while Semwaga posted 37 points, Rubangura added to the team's aggregate with 34 points and Sengamungu, had the lowest score on 32 points.
The team comprising Davis Kashaka Karegyeya-, Henry Rwigamba, Francois Rugomboka and Jack Kayonga was second on 102 points.
Third place went to the team of Louis Kamanzi, Marcel Byusa, Manu Rugomboka and Makolo on 97 points. Twelve teams took part in the competition with best three scores accounted.
The best individual golfer in handicap 9 and below was Katwiremu with 39 points after scratching four holes while Jack Kayonga was second on 38 points and Kashaka was third on 37 points. In the handicap 10-18, Philip Jacob won the category with 36 points while Bakuru Batavia finished second with 34 points and Louis Kamanzi was third with 33 points respectively.
Being the winners, Katwiremu, Semwaga, Rubangura and Sengamungu will don Rwandan national team colours at grand finale of the Tusker Malt Golf Carnival which will be held on May 21 at the Muthaiga golf club where about 200 golfers from Eastern Africa will meet to compete for the ultimate prize, a golf trip for four to South Africa.
In his remarks, the East Africa Breweries country and sales manager Andrew Kulayige said, "This is a clear signal that we are entering market to partner with different stake holders and we look forward at developing golf sport.
"Golf sport is honest and professional game and it's in the same way that we want to push Tusker as a brand," Kulayige said, adding that in keeping with the key brand values of Tusker Malt, the Golf Carnival is going to give golfers the chance to enhance the spirit of friendship and bonding. |
